Great News

Hi everyone.....man, did Lyn and I ever receive great news today!! Dr. Tuveson, my urologist, called and advised us that it appears that all the cancer has been removed and I will not need any radiation treatments as of now. Took a load off of Lyn's mind. She has been such a great support throughout this whole ordeal...and I sure am blessed with having her as my partner.
Thanks for all your prayers...obviously they worked!!
Talk to you soon.......

Successful Procedure!!

Hi everyone,
Happy to be able to be typing this from my own computer at home!! Surgery went longer than expected last Thursday, but was a successful procedure. Awaiting pathology report (standard procedure) today or tomorrow. Happily I was released from St. Agnes Hospital around noon yesterday (Sunday). Will be recuperating at home now for several weeks.

I really have to extend my compliments to the entire staff at St. Agnes Hospital, in particular the gang on the 3rd floor in Surgery/Peds. I received the most wonderful care over my 3+ day stay there. They were busy, but always had the time necessary for each patient. My thanks to all of you there on 3.

Haven't found much good yet to say about catheters!! Perhaps over the next couple of weeks my opinion will change......but I doubt it!!

I'll do my best to tackle the stairs at home here to keep you posted on my progress over the next few weeks. Again, my thanks for all the cards and e-mails expressing your good wishes and prayers. Seeing as how I got out as soon as I did, there must have been some power in numbers of prayers!

Thanks again, and I'll get back to you soon.

Thank You

Today we accomplished a first---we took the Breakfast Club on the road as we broadcast live from Schreiner's Restaurant in Fond du Lac. It was a fund raiser for the St. Agnes Hospital Foundation CancerCare Fund. Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $1,100!!! From the bottom of my heart, sincere thanks to all of you who helped out with this drive. If you weren't able to make it to Schreiner's today and would still like to help the cause, you can make a check payable to the St. Agnes Hospital Foundation and drop it off at KFIZ, or mail it to us at 254 Winnebago Drive, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.

Also, sincere thanks to all of you who offered me your kind words and prayers regarding my surgery set for early tomorrow. I appreciate the opportunity to see each of you and gratefully accept all your prayers. Thanks!

To all the gang at KFIZ who helped out or just stopped out to support the effort----thanks to you as well. It's a great team!

Much appreciation to my wife, Lyn, and mother-in-law Kathryn who stood by me all morning during the broadcast and had a chance to visit with so many of you.

Lyn will keep the posts coming in the next few days letting everyone know how things progress following surgery.

Looking forward to being back with all of you on the Breakfast Club as soon as possible.

Just a quick programming reminder.....our popular "Sing for Your Supper" contest is back. Your chance to win a pair of tickets to the Fireside Dinner Theater in Fort Atkinson to see the fabulous musical 42nd Street.

When you hear a bit of "Lullabye of Broadway" just be the first caller and sing a few bars of that song and you qualify to win. Only 10 qualifiers!!! Your chances are great. Our staff musicologists will judge the efforts and on Monday, August 28th, Wade will announce the winner.

Lyrics are: Come on along and listen to
The Lullabye of Broadway.
The hip-hooray and bally-hoo
The lullabye of Broadway.

Every qualifier will automatically win a gift certificate to the all new Johathan's Italian Bistro. We had our Business Connection there last night......I can tell you it's great food!!

Join the fun.....give a call and sing for YOUR supper.

Just an Update

Thanks to Bob Hoffmaster for inviting me to be a guest on the FOCUS on July 31, 2006. Our topic of the program was, of course, prostate cancer. As guests, we had my urologist, Dr. Christopher Tuveson of Agnesian along with Dr. Michael Vander Kooy, a radiology oncologist with Agnesian, with whom Lyn and I met to discuss my situation. We were joined by two friends who have gone through the radical prostatectomy surgery, Dennis Osterholt (well-known author of Bleacher Views in the Action Advertiser) and Dave Becker. I hope that during the program we were able to answer some questions for the listeners and perhaps put some minds at ease regarding this all-to-common cancer in men. The main message was two-fold: guys---get your PSA levels checked by your doctor. It's a simple blood test. And don't forget the annual digital rectal exam.....and yes, I agree, no one looks forward to this event....probably not even your doctor!! And the second message was that if you find that you have prostate cancer it is not a "death sentence" in this day and age. Medical science has progressed markedly over the years and now this disease is treated and most often cured. But this doesn't happen unless you find out if you have it!!! Both Dave and Dennis were very candid with their comments and hopefully listeners realize that, although a lengthy procedure and recovery period and not without some pain, the surgery does work and these guys are living examples of just that. My personal sincere thanks to all our guests.

Don't forget next Wednesday, August 23, 2006, we're doing the Breakfast Club live from Schreiner's Restaurant. It's a fund raiser for the St. Agnes Hospital Foundation CancerCare Fund. This provides funding for folks who need cancer treatment/surgery and don't have the financial resources necessary. Plus, for a $14.50 donation at Schreiner's, you'll get a first-ever Breakfast Club mug....and for double that donation ($29.00), you'll get two mugs. By the way, that will be my last Breakfast Club before my surgery on the 24th. Paul and Joan Cunningham of Schreiner's are providing some additional incentives to contributors as well. For a $14.50 donation, you'll get 10% off your breakfast on the 23rd (till 10am) and for a $29.00 donation, you'll also get an additional 10% off any bakery or gift shop item. We really appreciate their generosity in the fund-raising campaign. Schreiner's will be opening earlier on the 23rd as well....they'll be open at 6 am....so please come on out and visit with us....grab a free Torke coffee to go, also courtesy of Schreiner's, make a donation, have breakfast, and help a great cause. St. Agnes will also have personnel present to answer cancer questions and provide literature on cancer and on the special fund. Lots of KFIZ staff members will be there to chat with you during your visit. Thanks to Paul and Joan, the entire Schreiner's staff, the folks at St. Agnes Hospital and my personal thanks to the KFIZ gang for their efforts in putting this together, particularly Mark Kastein and Tom Boyson, and Bob Nelson and Wade Bates for joining me "on the road."

One final note today.....thank you to all of you who have sent e-mails, cards and notes wishing me well with this surgery. My doctor says to expect to be off from 4 to 8 weeks. I promise I'll get back as soon as I am physically able.

My wife, Lyn, will try to keep some postings going here after my surgery to keep you updated.

Most Stolen Vehicles

On this morning's Breakfast Club, we only had time to mention a couple of the most stolen vehicles, as per a report from the Associated Press today. Thought I'd give a little more info.
Six of the top ten stoled cars on this year's list were models of the Acura Integra. At the top of the list, however, you find the BMW MSeries Roadster. One of every 200 of these cars is stolen!
Several high end sport utes also made the list.
No matter what we drive, we need to be sure to lock up and be careful.
See ya.
